Cafe Paprika, Aurora: Smoking Only Destroys Dining Atmosphere
We became smoke-free upon opening in 1993 primarily because the smoke comes in the kitchen and ruins the food. The reception was very positive.
I feel that our diners and staff should be focusing their attention on the fine food and beverages that our restaurant provides, rather than be distracted by the unsavory smell of tobacco smoke. A good restaurant is more than just cuisine - it is an atmosphere. Tobacco smoke destroys the pleasure of dining for nonsmokers and disturbs the harmony of happiness and entertainment for most of the guests in a restaurant. The decision to smoke is a personal one. However, smoking in a public place is no longer personal. It is an inconvenience and a health hazard that diners should not have to suffer. —Chakib Marrakchi, Owner, Cafe Paprika, Aurora
