Frank-N-Steins, Aurora: Employees Have the Right to Work in a Healthy Atmosphere
My restaurant has been smoke-free since it opened. I have urged the Aurora City Council to seriously look at doing something about the smoking issue. My employees and my customers have the right to work and eat in a smoke-free environment. We are smoke-free because I personally dislike smoke, separate areas chop up a restaurant, and smokers have the option of smoking in our outside facilities. Going smoke-free has created a more positive business model. I have asked my smoking employees to smoke outside, since everyone would have to breathe smoke if we allowed smoke anywhere in the restaurant. A school up north was closed because of asbestos, yet secondhand smoke kills 60,000 Americans each year. —Mike Cerven, Owner, Frank-N-Steins, Aurora
